Management
The management screen controls production mix and how your people eat.
Weaponsmith mix
Set how many swords, bows, maces, pikes, and crossbows each weaponsmith should make. The combined total cannot exceed your weaponsmith count.
Food rations
Set how much food your people eat. Higher rations mean faster population growth (if you have housing). Lower rations slow growth and free food for explorers and army.
For the protection boom, Very High is a safe default for new players; experienced players (and Franks especially) often use Extremely High. If unused people pile up, dial down. If farms/hunters sit empty, raise rations so jobs fill.
Check status and the turn report after changes — empty jobs and winter wood still matter even with perfect rations. Every October, confirm you can feed ~5 winter months before starvation (see Protection start).
Land conversion
Empty acres only. Gold is per source acre (0 for Vikings, Zulu, and Finns after protection).
- Mountain → forest — 1:1, 100 gold
- Forest → plains — 1:1 for every civ. 25 gold per forest
- Plains → forest — regular civs 2 plains → 1 forest; Vikings, Zulu, and Finns 1:1. 25 gold per plains
Use forest → plains when you need town centers or mage towers, then plains → forest when the next explore run needs hunters or woodcutters again. Odd leftover plains on a 2:1 convert are left unused. Exploring plains already finds more acres than forest; 2:1 on the way back is what stops “explore plains, convert to forest.”
