Attacking

On the attack screen you send forces against other empires. There are three attack types: army, catapult, and thief.

How battles resolve

Your total attack points are compared to the defender’s defense points (see totals at the top of the army screen). Rolls are randomized about ±10% of the real values. Military research raises attack or defense. The higher total wins.

If the target was attacked recently (by you or someone else), your effective attack strength can be reduced. The attack screen shows the strength you will actually fight with.

Army attacks

Use swordsmen, archers, horsemen, macemen, trained peasants, pikemen, crossbowmen, and your unique unit (as allowed). Sending an army costs gold and food for 6 months of upkeep.

You can send wine to raise morale: each wine can double the strength of one soldier. Wine for every soldier doubles the whole army’s attack strength.

Army mission types:

  • Conquer — take land. Each surviving unit has a max land take (see Units); the real amount can be lower.
  • Raid — destroy enemy resources and buildings (you do not receive them).
  • Rob — steal resources.
  • Slaughter — kill population.

Catapult attacks

Only catapults participate. Mission types:

  • Army and towers — destroy some enemy army and towers
  • Population — kill population
  • Buildings — destroy buildings

Only catapults defend against catapult attacks.

Thief attacks

Only thieves participate. Mission types:

  • Steal information — army and resources
  • Steal research info
  • Steal building info
  • Steal goods
  • Poison water — kill some army and population
  • Set fire — destroy some buildings

Only thieves defend against thief attacks.
